Caesar "the King" Gambetti was an American mobster who was one of the Caporegimes of the Gambetti crime family. He was the son of the late Don John Gambetti, and a Caporegime under Sonny Cangelosi, next to Jon Gambetti. Gambetti was killed in 1975 by the rival Ancelotti crime family, although this was actually a benefit to Gambetti, who paid hitman Johnny "Spiderman" Frigatelli $50,000 because he had eliminated the last opposition to his rule.

Biography[]

Gambetti was born to Gambetti's mistress Adrianna Calabria, who was pregnant for ten years, an abnormal span of pregnancy years. Gambetti's father was killed in 1933, before he was born, and he was taken under the wing of Sonny Cangelosi, the new boss. Cangelosi kept him around as a caporegime in the Gambetti Family, his father's organization founded back in 1928. Gambetti was nicknamed "The King" by his crew members because of his name. Allegedly, his name was wrote down on his birth certificate differently, but Sonny unofficially renamed him.

Gambetti was disliked by fellow capo Jon Gambetti, who believed that the old Gambetti family should be purged and that Cangelosi's men should not be relatives of the former Don, since they might want to have higher pay or rank. Gambetti's turf was in Jersey City and along the New Jersey Waterfront. Gambetti was responsible for gun smuggling, diamond dealing, and prostitution, but did not get involved with the drug trade, since he would lose the respect of other made men.

Gambetti was responsible for the murders of several members of the rival Ancelotti crime family in the Gambetti-Ancelotti War, and the Ancelottis were given permission from The Commission to whack him. In 1975, Gambetti was killed by Johnny "Spiderman" Frigatelli, who jumped on the top of his car and shot the driver, before jumping off and shooting Gambetti. Gambetti was happy that the old roots were cut off, and he actually paid "Spiderman" $50,000, resulting in the murder of Frigatelli by the Ancelottis out of fear that he was a traitor.
