Martinez was born on the Isla de Juventud in Cuba, to poor parents. In 1950, he moved to Miami, Florida, learning to speak English, as Spanish was his first language. In 1959, he was employed as a hired gun for the Almeida crime family, acting as an soldato under Jaime Fesser. In 1960, following the death of Pablo Benitez de Lugo, Martinez became initiated into the family as a Underboss, but avoided the destruction of the Almeida Compound in Cuba, as he was driving the streets of Miami. Martinez was loyal to Ramon Almeida, the new overboss of the Almeida family (brother of the late Don/General Esteban Almeida), and in 1969, he started doing business with the Corleone crime family.
Dominic of the Trapani crime family, a vassal of the Corleone Family, decided that dealing with the Almeidas would cause trouble with the La Habana Syndicate, his allies who were enemies with the Almeidas. He proceeded to formulate a plan to kill Martinez, so he sent a VIP invitation to him, allowing him to go to Foreplay Pictures to watch adult entertainment films. After returning from the theater with Leon Pazzi, Peter Guerra, Alvin Puchi, and Walter Uzzano, the armored car that Pazzi was driving was shot by Dominic. Pazzi and the others left the car, and they all ganged up on Martinez, with the soldati beating him while Dominic drew a Thompson sub-machine gun, and Martinez was shot once in the back of the head. His corpse was stripped of his Delta M1911 pistol that he was carrying, before being buried underneath ABF Ltd. Construction Site.
