Compton is a Los Angeles neighborhood which is a deprived district that is home to the Compton Crips, Compton Families, and Piru Street Families. The Compton neighborhood is home to the Grove Street cul-de-sac, where the Grove Street Families were founded.

Compton was was founded in 1888, named for Griffith Dickenson Compton, a pioneer from Stockton, California. The city was incorporated into the Los Angeles metropolitan area, and had over 96,000 people as of 2010. Compton is known for its high crime rate, as it is the contested turf between the Grove Street Families (now The Families), Ballas, Crips, Bloods, Vagos, and Sureños. It borders Idlewood, East Los Angeles, and Willowfield, which are also contested areas. The Compton neighborhood has seen Ballas-GSF war primarily in 1992-93 and 2008-13, respectively. Some consider Compton to be the most-dangerous Los Angeles neighborhood, although Chamberlain Hills, Baldwin Village, and Davis are also considered to fit the title. Grove Street, which has been in Ballas turf since its takeover in 2008, has seen several shootings, many within a short timespan from the previous one.
