Salvatore "Sal" Valestra was the don of the Valestra crime family and was at one point considered to be the most powerful mob boss in all of New York City.
Biography[]
Valestra was born in New York City to an Italian-American family, and made money through criminal activities. With the aid of caporegimes Buzz Bronski and Chuckie Sol, Valestra rose to the pinnacle of New York organized crime, and his Valestra crime family rocketed to the top of the food chain. In 1991, Valestra killed debtor Carl Beaumont, which would later lead to his death.
By 1993 Valestra's organization was failing, as his caporegimes had formed their own families and Commissioner James Gordon of the NYPD was cracking down on his family. An aging Valestra struggled to lead his family during these times, and Andy Beaumont, the daughter of the late Carl, planned to kill him.
Death[]
After hearing about the murders of Chuckie Sol and Buzz Bronski, Valestra contacted his former hitman, now called "The Joker", and asked for him to help him kill vigilante Bruce Wayne, whom they knew by his alter ego as "the Batman". The Joker instead used poison gas to kill his former boss Valestra, and used him as bait to lure the Batman to his doom.
